JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:
This individual is responsible for the planning and conducting of therapeutic activities for both individuals and groups within the program. They also counsel clients on an individual and group basis and must have a significant to advanced understanding of how therapeutic behavioral health programs operate and how clients progress through the treatment system and full continuum of care. Duties may include, but are not limited to carrying out tasks in the therapeutic care, treatment, and rehabilitation of persons with substance use disorder(s) and/or mental health diagnoses; facilitating and supervising individual and group counseling; working with social service agencies, managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons and other entities in coordinating client care; assisting clients in their access and utilization of community resources; preparing treatment plans, biopsychosocial histories, discharge/ aftercare plans, reports and maintaining accurate records; encouraging, reassuring and giving needed support; recommending educational and occupational training and/or possibilities for placement; and completing assessments and evaluations based on appropriate ASAM criteria. Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, and policies and procedures; however, employees are expected to exercise significant initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties. Work is reviewed by the Program Director and/or Clinical Supervisor through an evaluation of the completion of assignments through individual and/ or group supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Treat all clients and staff with dignity and respect.
2. Attend all team / staff meetings as required by Supervisor.
3. Role model pro-social behavior.
4. Be responsible for a caseload of clients, as identified by program requirements and in accordance with state regulations.
5. Complete required evaluations and assessments, including screening, intake, clinical assessments, ASAM, and biopsychosocial histories, in accordance with established program and state guidelines
6. Complete individual treatment plans upon clients’ admission and update in accordance with established program guideline.
7. Document all clinical services and interventions performed within client’s electronic record, and complete monthly treatment reports.
8. Maintain accurate electronic records on each client and ensure the timely completion of tasks, within 24 hours of service delivery and no later than 72 hours of service delivery, in accordance with established program guidelines and level of care requirements.
9. Conduct individual and group sessions based on clients’ treatment plan goals, level of care, and state regulations
10. Participate in funding source reviews and make recommendations for treatment and lengths of stay.
11. Attend, participate, and when necessary, assist in the facilitation of special events, such as retreats, graduations, etc.
12. Moderate special groups and meetings, including family meetings, family education, and workshops.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education, Training, and Experience Delaware Education/ Licensure Requirements:
- Counselor I: Must possess full certification as certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC) in the state of Delaware, or possess full certification by a nationally recognized body in addictions counseling, or possess at least five years’ clinical experience working in the field of SUD treatment.
- Counselor II: May be a student enrolled in a course of study while completing a practicum or internship; or bean individual working toward full certification in addictions counseling by the Delaware Certification Board or nationally recognized certification organization. Must receive one hour of clinical supervision by clinical supervisor for every twenty hours. Maryland Education/ Licensure Requirements:
- Must have, at minimum, an alcohol and drug trainee (ADT) certification; can also have CSC-AD, CAC-AD,LGADC, LGPC, LCADC, and/ or LCPC. Pennsylvania Education/ Licensure Requirements:
- Counselor I: Associate’s Degree with two years’ clinical experience; or Bachelor’s degree with one year clinical experience
- Counselor II: Associate’s Degree with three years’ clinical experience; or Bachelor’s degree with two years’ clinical experience
- Counselor III: Bachelor’s degree with three years’ clinical experience; Master’s degree in social work, psychology, chemical dependency, counseling or nursing with no experience required; or Master’s degree in related field requires one year of experience District of Columbia Education/ Licensure Requirements:
- DC Health Professional Licensing Administration (HPLA) licensure as a Certified Addictions Counselors (CAC)Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW).
- Counselor I (CACI): Associate’s Degree Counselor II (CACII): Bachelor’s degree Counselor III (LGSW, LPC, LICSW): Master’s degree in social work or counseling
