General Overview:
- To provide comprehensive evaluation and to treat the adult substance abuse population, chemical abusers with mental health problems, and mentally ill patients.
- To assess prospective patients for admission to detoxify and to rehabilitate to the facility (ACI) for appropriate level of care.
- To adhere to standards set forth and described in the Nurse Practitioner.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct evaluation with relevant history, health assessment based on the patient’s signs & symptoms.
- Identify the needs of the patient and make a differential diagnosis based on the clinical presentation, history, and clinical findings.
- Review patient lab work to determine a treatment plan.
- Develop a prioritized and mutually acceptable plan of care according to the written practice protocols.
- Provide excellent patient care.
- Assure patient’s medical history and physical examination are completed within twenty-four (24) hours of admission.
- Assure patients are referred to proper agencies when treatment is beyond our scope.
- Provide admission, transfer, and discharge orders.
- Attend and participate in clinical staffing (can participate but cannot sign off on exception or take-home requests).
- Implement a treatment plan that is prioritized and mutually acceptable with appropriate diagnostic tests, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, patient education, and with appropriate referrals as needed.
- Provide systematic follow-up by evaluating the effectiveness of various treatments provided, therapeutic processes used, their outcome and modifying treatments & management plans as necessary to achieve optimum mental health goals.
- Provide educational materials & information needed to make well informed choices and decisions by patients about their health promotion, illness prevention and finally, illness treatment.
- Facilitate the patient’s entry into mental health care system with appropriate utilization of quality and cost-effective health care services.
- Provide a safe environment for the patient, and promote patient advocacy at the individual, community, and global levels.
- Participate with other professional colleagues to provide comprehensive mental health care.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential medical records.
- Facilitate leadership with regards to new findings in the field of addictions treatment.
Qualifications:
· The Nurse Practitioner must meet state-defined minimum licensure, education, and experience requirements which may include the following:
o Nursing degree from accredited college/university.
o Currently licensed by the State Nursing or Medical Licensure Board as a Nurse Practitioner and in good standing.
o Experience in substance abuse treatment ideal
o Must have DEA license and XDEA license for OBOT locations
o Valid state Nurse Practitioner License
o Master of Science in Nursing
o Meet the qualifications of, and practice within the parameters as stated in Chapter 257 of the New York State Education Law, Article 139,
· Be certified as a nurse practitioner pursuant to § 6910, with prescription writing privileges pursuant to § 6902.3b of the Education Law.
